Expert one to one singing lessons
There are many reasons that you may be seeking professional singing lessons with an online vocal coach. You're just starting out on your singing career and could benefit from advice from an industry expert, or you're a fully established singing professional looking for an exceptional online singing teacher to take you to the next level.
Whatever the reason, taking online singing lessons gives you the opportunity to sing in front of an expert, ask questions, take vocal direction and get feedback - from the comfort of your own home!
Vocal sessions focus on individuals realising their true voice potential and encompass breathing technique with a thorough understanding of the diaphragm, vocal dynamics, timbre, rhythm, phrasing, visualisation, audition preparation and microphone technique.
Voice training focusses on :
* How to command and capture the attention of any audience, large or small.
* How to take control of your voice and know that it will always be there for you.
* How to emotionally connect to your voice and deliver powerful speeches through any medium.
* How to increase the range of your voice resulting in a more engaging resonance and how to attain vocal endurance, resulting in the ability to speak for longer periods of time.
Guitar lessons aim to allow the pupil to develop their own style through an individually tailored method. Encompassing theory, chord development, lead playing, rhythm/strumming techniques.
FAQ
Q - How much are one to one lessons?
A - Please see price list HERE
Q - What platform is used for online lessons?
A - Your first lesson will be on zoom (you will be sent a zoom link after booking). We often switch to facetime or skype afterwards depending on the quality of the zoom call.
Q - What happens in my first lesson?
A - First session includes a (very informal!) assessment/chat to establish current vocal ability/goals to see where you are at.
Q - Does Nick take on beginners?
A - Absolutely! You have to start somewhere and there is no age limit!
Q - Where are the ‘in person’ lessons based?
A - Chertsey, Surrey. All in person lessons take place at my home studio.
Q - What method is taught?
A - Nick's methodology is unique and has been carefully put together following years of research including trialled and tested methods. It is a combination of everything Nick has learned from being a professional musician and vocal coach over the last 30 + years.
There are a few key things to do to get the most out of your lesson so please make sure you:
• Have excellent wifi connection/speed
• 2 devices. One for video call (ideally laptop or computer) and one to receive audio/videos/exercises on whatsapp through the lesson (ideally iphone/android)
• A speaker to the 2nd device - the one Annabel will send you exercises to. So you can play them nice and loud to sing along to! We recommend something like a Portable Bose Soundlink Revolve
• Nick needs to be able to see your whole body (top of your head to your knees!) Please ensure you have a stand for the device you will be using for FaceTime/Skype – ideally at head height.
• Somewhere you feel you can make noise without feeling inhibited!
• If you have a specific song you want to work on please make sure you send backing track and lyrics (in a document eg word/pages) prior to the lesson in a dropbox or we transfer link to nickhaswell@talk21.com subject TRACK/LYRICS FOR LESSON
Q - Is there an age limit? Can I have a shorter session for my child?
A - No upper age limit. Nick offers 30 min sessions for under 10’s.
Q - Any previous experience necessary?
A - Not at all! Nick’s priority isn’t whether you’ve had training, but if you love to sing and are willing to work hard and give 100% then you are in the right place! Training for singing is like exercise and Nick loves to get results quickly for you so needs you to commit and work hard in order to achieve your goal together.
Q - Can I bring my friend, manager etc?
A - Unless you are under 18 it is strongly advised not to have anyone in the session with you. Chat’s with guests in the first 10 mins are fine but after than it is better to be left alone where you can feel fully free to express yourself and try new things without feeling like you have an audience. Please contact nickhaswell@talk21.com for more info on this.
Q - How often do i need a lesson?
A - This is completely up to the individual but a weekly lesson can be most beneficial.
Q - Do you give me anything to do after the lesson?
A - Yes, with singing and voice training, once you are comfortable and confident with my bespoke warm-ups and exercises, i'm happy to share them with my clients and with guitar lessons, we collate a list of everything that we cover and files, exercises etc, are shared when necessary.
Q - Can i record a demo?
A - Yes, i have my own studio set-up so we can record original compositions, whereby i assist in the production of the song using either Logic or Garageband. We can record a bespoke, acoustic version or fully produced song. We can also record covers of famous songs and gift them to our loved ones. These can be a very special gifts that will last forever.

Q - What should I prepare before the lesson?
A - You don’t ‘have’ to prepare anything if you don’t want to but we suggest at least having a think about a song to sing. If you have booked the lesson to specifically work on a song for an audition, recording or performance, or even just for fun, please make sure you send backing track and lyrics (in a document eg word/pages) prior to the lesson in a dropbox or we transfer link to nickhaswell@talk21.com subject TRACK/LYRICS FOR LESSON WITH ‘YOUR NAME’
Q - I need to cancel what do I do?
A - Please ensure that you have given Nick 24 hrs notice otherwise payment will be required.
Q - Does online coaching work as well as in person coaching?
A - Absolutely! Nick mainly coaches online. It is a great way of learning if you are abroad or cannot travel.

Q - Can you offer me any good advice?
A - I have worked as a professional musician, guitarist, singer, actor and band leader for over 30 years so can offer lot's of invaluable advice.
Q - Do i do exams or grades?
A - No, passing a singing grade is certainly nothing to be sniffed at, but it is worth asking yourself why you want to take the exams. The problem when coaching for children’s singing exams is that you barely get time to cover anything except for how to pass the singing exam. It also doesn't allow us to focus on the individuals strengths and weakness's and limit's personalisation.
